What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an extremely effective treatment for many types of problems, both physical and emotional. My patients often choose acupuncture for conditions such as depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, back pain, digestive disorders and fertility support. FAQs - Acupuncture

I'm not keen on needles...

My needles are very fine; it is completely unlike a hypodermic needle and is much thinner than a sewing needle. Most of the time you won’t feel a thing. I can fully understand that many people have this fear and discomfort around needles, and I will do all I can to help you feel relaxed and at ease. Any slight, momentary discomfort will most certainly be outweighed by the benefits of having treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

After we have met for our initial consultation, I ask that you commit to around 6-8 treatments. It is very important to have this continuity at the beginning as it can take a little time to get things working as they should.

I need to cancel my appointment. What should I do?

I ask that you try to give at least 24hrs notice of cancellation, otherwise there is a charge of half the cost of your treatment. For any appointments cancelled outside 24hrs, there is no charge. Please see my cancellation policy for more details.

Will it hurt?

There are some points that are a little more sensitive, like around the hands and feet for instance. In Five element acupuncture, we insert the needle just for a moment, so any slight discomfort will only be for an instant. You will also get a certain sensation which we discuss when you come for your treatment. This is something enjoyed by most patients as it is a sign of activity and a connection with the Qi.

How can I prepare?

I ask my patients try to drink 2 litres of water a day whilst having treatment. The human body has 32 trillion cells that must contain water to live and stay healthy. It is very important that you are nicely hydrated to enable the energy to do its work efficiently. For this reason, it’s best to limit alcohol intake the evening before, and consuming no alcohol the day of your treatment to get the best results.

How long is a session?

Our initial consultation will be approximately 2 hours, your first treatment can also be the same. Every follow up thereafter will be around an hour.

What can Five Element Acupuncture be used to treat?

In Five Element acupuncture, we treat the root cause of your problem and we bring the Mind, Body and Spirit back into balance. When this happens, the body is able to heal itself. My patients come for a wide variety of reasons including: depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, fertility, digestive complaints, neck and back problems and eating disorders. Some patients however, just like to come for maintenance to help with overall well -being and balance.
